Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 6th Shanghai International Conference of Gastroenterology. The purpose of this conference is to allow the exchange of clinical experiences and the sharing of scientific and technological knowledge.

This conference is co-organized by the Johns Hopkins University Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Professor Anthony Kalloo is responsible for organizing the endoscopy session and endoscopy live demonstration. This conference is also organized in conjunction with the European Association of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, American College of Gastroenterology, the International Digestive Cancer Alliance, the International Working Group for Classification of Oesophagitis and the Asian Pacific Association of Gastroenterology.

The postgraduate course held on July 1, is supported by the European Association of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, the International Digestive Cancer Alliance and the International Working Group for the Classification of Oesophagitis. We are grateful to the organizers Professor Guido Tytgat, Professor Peter Malfertheiner, Professor Prateek Sharma and Professor Sidney Winawer, as the course is a forum for digestive cancer and provides information on the latest advancement in the mechanism and management of GI cancers.

Professor Meinhard Classen will give a lecture in honor of late Professor Jiang Shao-Ji, the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and former Director of Shanghai Institute of Digestive Disease, in the morning of July 2. Professor Meinhard Classen is the former President of World Gastroenterology Organization,distinguished gastroenterologist and endoscopist,the title of his lecture is "The rise and fall of endoscopy".
